A lovely, humble and kind couple that I got to know in church was getting married on the month of July, so I was thinking of getting them a wedding gift. After some scrolling on google and Pinterest for some wedding gift ideas, I decided to make a personalised wedding gift for them! I wanted to try out something I’ve never done before but have always wanted to do–wood art!

I started looking and asking around for wooden blocks, but many are too expensive for budget haha..so I decided to ask around if anyone has any wood to spare for me. I got in contact with a friend who happens to make wooden pieces of furniture in Kuala Lumpur (KL), who agreed that he had spares to give! As I wasn’t in KL at that time, I had a friend flying back to Miri to carry it over for me 😀

The plain wooden block is such a beauty. And it came a few inch thicker than I requested for, so it could stand on its own, how exciting!

I started sketching my design on the wooden block then painted it with acrylic paint. As it was my first time doing wood art, I did not consider using any wood paint (though I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT for a smoother finish!). Being a first timer, I was also more ambitious to do cursive on the board, which I later had a hard time tracing with the smallest paint brush I have HAHA! Nonetheless, it was an exciting project!

I painted pink roses with doodled baby blue leaves, with white colour for almost the entire bible verse from 1 Corinthians 13:7 “Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things” as well as the couple’s name and wedding date! I also added some pink hearts around the lovely couple’s name, <3

To add a little mystery fun, I wrote them a letter which I folded up and tied up, finished with my seal on it. I then taped it at the back of the wooden block with my blue washi tape with matches the baby blue leaves doodle on the front of the block!

I had so much fun making my very first wood art! Here’s to more wood art to come~ *CHEERS*
